HABITS OF UNSUCCESSFUL PEOPLE VS SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE

Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.
~ Albert Einstein

Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others. Unsuccessful people are always asking, 'What's in it for me?'
~ Brian Tracy

Successful people maintain a positive focus in life no matter what is going on around them. They stay focused on their past successes rather than their past failures, and on the next action steps they need to take to get them closer to the fulfilment of their goals rather than all the other distractions that life presents to them.
~ Jack Canfield

Success is most often achieved by those who don't know that failure is inevitable.
~ Coco Chanel

Courage is grace under pressure.

Short Inspirational Story - Never Give Up

A frog was hopping about a farmyard, when it determined to examine the barn. Being rather hasty, and maybe a little too inquisitive, he ended up falling into a pail half-filled with fresh milk.

At the same time as he swimming to reach the top of the pail, he discovered that the sides of the pail were too high and very steep for him to reach.

He tried to stretch his back legs to push off the base of the pail but found it too deep. But this frog was indomitable and he wouldn’t give up, so he continued to fight.

He kicked and struggled and kicked and struggled, until at last, all his stirring about in the milk had turned the milk into a big lump of butter. The butter was now firm enough for him to climb onto and get out of the pail!

The Moral of The Story? "Never Give Up!"

Short Inspirational Story: Potatoes, eggs and coffee beans

Once upon a time a daughter whined to her father that their life was miserable and that she didn’t know how she is going to survive like this. She was exhausted of fighting and struggling constantly. It appeared that as soon as one predicament resolved, another one quickly followed.

The little girl’s father, a cook, took her to the kitchen. He filled 3 pots with water and put each on a high fire. Once the 3 pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot, and ground coffee beans in the third pot.

Then he allowed them to boil, whilst saying nothing to his daughter.

The little girl whined and anxiously waited, speculating what her father was doing.

After about twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He took out the potatoes from the pot and placed them in a bowl. In the same way he pulled out the eggs and placed them in a bowl as well.

Then  he ladled the coffee out and poured it in a cup. Turning toward his daughter he asked. “Daughter, what do you see?”

“Potatoes, eggs, and coffee,” she replied quickly.

“Look closer,” he said, “and feel the potatoes.” She touched the potatoes and observed that they were soft. He then requested her to take an egg and break it. After peeling off the shell, she noticed the egg was hard-boiled. Lastly, he asked her to sip the coffee. Its rich aroma was soothing and she felt relaxed after having a few sips.

“Father, what does this imply?” she inquired.
He then told her that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans had all faced similar harsh conditions and misfortune, which is the boiling water.

Yet, each one retorted in a different way.

The potato went in sturdy, hard, and implacable, although in boiling water, it turned out to be soft and weak.

The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell shielding its fluid center till the time it was placed in the boiling water. Subsequently the interior of the egg became solid.

On the other hand, the ground coffee beans were only one of its kind. After they were immersed into the boiling water, they altered the water and produced something new.

Now he asked his daughter, “Which one are you my dear,” he asked “When hardships knock on your door, how would you act in response? Are you a potato, an egg, or a coffee bean? “

Moral: "It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters."

Quotes on life-attitude

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.” ~ Charles R. Swindoll quotes (American Writer and Clergyman, b.1934)
“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it”~ Charles R. Swindoll quotes (American Writer and Clergyman, b.1934)

Short Inspirational Story - BUILDING BRIDGES

A long time ago two brothers who lived on next-door on a farm fell into conflict. It was the first serious clash between them in 40 years of farming side by side, sharing equipment, and trading manual labor and merchandise as required with no hindrance whatsoever.

Then the long alliance destroyed. It started with a small quarrel but it slowly cultivated into a major difference, and finally it resulted into a swapping of sour words and weeks of silence.

One fine day, early in the morning there was a thump on John's door. He opened the door to discover a man with a carpenter's toolbox. "I need a few days work," he said.

"Perchance you would have some small jobs around the farm. Could I facilitate you?"

"Yes," said the older brother. "I do have some work for you. Glance across the stream at that farm. That's my neighbor, in fact, he’s my younger brother. Last week there was a pasture linking us and he took his bulldozer to the river levee and now there is a creek between us. Well, he may have done this out of spitefulness for me, but I'll go him one better. See that pile of lumber curing by the barn? I want you to build me a fence - an 8-foot fence - so I won't need to see his place anymore. Cool him down, nonetheless."

The carpenter said, "I think I comprehend the circumstances. Show me the nails and the post-hole digger and I'll be able to do a job that delights you."

The older brother had to go to town for supplies, so he helped the carpenter get the resources geared up and then he was off for the day.

The carpenter worked hard all that day measuring, sawing, nailing.

About sundown when the farmer arrived, the carpenter had just completed his job. The farmer's eyes opened wide, his jaw dropped.

There was no fence there at all. It was a bridge... a bridge elongated from one side of the creek to the other! A fine piece of work handrails and all - and the neighbor, his younger brother, was coming across, his hand stretched out.

"You are quite a fellow to build this bridge after all I've said and done."

The two brothers stood at each end of the bridge, and then they met in the middle, taking each other's hand. They turned to see the carpenter lift his toolbox on his shoulder. "No, wait! Stay a few days. I've a lot of other projects for you," said the older brother.

"I'd love to stay on," the carpenter said, "but, I have many more bridges to build."

A POUND OF BUTTER

“Do not do to others what angers you if done to you by others.” ~ Socrates

There was a farmer who used to sell a pound of butter to a baker. One day the baker thought of weighing the butter to see if he was getting a pound as promised however to his surprise and he found that he was not getting the full pound.

Treat those who are good with goodness, and also treat those who are not good with goodness. Thus goodness is attained. Be honest to those who are honest, and be also honest to those who are not honest. Thus honesty is attained.~ Lao Tzu

This made him very angry and he took the farmer to court. The farmer was asked by the judge if he was using any measure.

The farmer responded, your Honor, I am primeval. I don't have a appropriate measure, but I do have a scale."

The judge then asked the farmer, "Then how do you weigh the butter?" The farmer replied "Your Honor, long before the baker started buying butter from me, I have been buying a pound loaf of bread from him. Each day when the baker brings me the bread, I put it on the scale and offer him the equivalent weight in butter. If anyone is to be held responsible, it is the baker."

The more people rationalize cheating, the more it becomes a culture of dishonesty. And that can become a vicious, downward cycle. Because suddenly, if everyone else is cheating, you feel a need to cheat, too.
~Stephen Covey

Therefore the moral of the story is…….We tend to get back in life what we offer to other people. Every time you take an action, ask yourself this question: Am I being fair and honest, would I feel ok if the same happens to me. Some people practice deceitfulness and can lie with a straight face. Others lie so much that they don't even know what the reality is any longer. But who are they misleading? Themselves.

Integrity is not a conditional word. It doesn't blow in the wind or change with the weather. It is your inner image of yourself, and if you look in there and see a man who won't cheat, then you know he never will.
~John D. MacDonald
